The Reading Center
The Reading Center offers an individualized reading program to college
students. Reading instructors place students in modules based on the
students' needs. Students may earn anywhere from 0.5 to 2.0 units per
semester.
- Open Entry―Open Exit
Students may add up until the 12th week of the semester.
- One on one attention from instructors, IAs, and reading tutors.
- We offer a wide variety of modules suited for the highly proficient reader to the developing reader.
Module Selections:
- Test taking (competency preparation, standardized, and general)
- 102 Essay reading―prepares students to pass the 102 exit exam
- Essay reading―provides practice with reading/analyzing EngWr 300 reading assignments
- Bridge 15 and Bridge 116―presents and reviews material included in these 2 lecture classes
- Literate Child―focuses on the importance of reading to children (geared for Early Childhood Education students and parents)
- Comprehension (4 levels)
- Vocabulary modules, including Latin and Greek word parts
- Spelling
- Speed reading
- SQ3R/Note taking
- Reading for Mathematics
- English 15/51 Essay module-an introduction to analyzing essays through the reading process
- Novel ways- guided reading and response to novels and non-fiction
Hours:
- Monday through Thursday―7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Friday―8:00 am to 1:00 pm
