Contest is limited to Sacramento-Area High Schools

Contest Rules and Entry Forms

 

Winning entries published in the next issue of ARC's literary magazine The American River Review (publishing date, January 2008)

(Sorry, failure to comply with all rules will result in disqualification.)

 

 

1.

Each teacher may submit only ONE student entry per category:
 
  • Poetry1 poem, up to 50 lines
  • Short Fiction2,000 words or less
  • Personal Essay2,000 words or less: memoir, autobiography, nature writing
 

2.

All entries must be typed and titled.
 
  • Prose should be double-spaced.  Write "Fiction" or "Essay" on page one.
  • Name of Student, Teacher and High School must appear on every page.
 

3.

Every teacher submitting student entries must screen the entries, sign the Teacher Release Form, and mail the form with the entries.

4.

Every student writer must sign the Student Release Form and include it when submitting entries.  Please add a brief biography of 3-5 sentences, including your grade, special interests or achievements, college and career plans, and literary influences.

Entries must be postmarked between January 15, 2007, and March 15, 2007.
 

6.

Make copies!  No entries will be returned. Winners only will be notified  by May 2, 2007, and will be posted at our website: http://english.arc.losrios.edu
